More than half of the media channels are aligned with political affiliations, meaning most Sri Lankans read political news filtered through outlets tied to political power, rather than outlets that remain independent of it.

We recognize that our people’s right to informative and accurate political news has been undermined by mainstream media channels through temporary, trivial gossip and manufactured drama. With every minute of the audience’s distraction, those media channels’ influence increases.
